A lot of people scoffed.
Kelduum has announced, on the EVE University forums (members-only section), a new Ivy League corporation devoted solely to alts and ex-members of the University, for no other reason than to pad the membership totals, to increase the cost to declare war on the University.
Woo! Way to fucking go CCP Greyscale, Carebear Defender. Look at all the logged out targets one gets to go to war with when they pay the inflated fee. You did say after all that the costs were a reflection of the war targets you'd get to fight.
I'll let him speak for himself though, because as a CSM member, looking out for everybody, he speaks writes so eloquently.
Hi all,For seven years, Ivy League has not allowed alt characters of regular members into the alliance. Until now.
With the wardec changes coming up in May, the situation where we do what we can to keep the membership numbers down to avoid attention is counter-productive, so we will be launching the Ivy League Hall of Residence in the next few days.
This is an alt corporation for any current/past E-UNI members, recruitment of which will be semi automated - this will require the Unista to decare their alts characterID via a special hidden forum field, which will then be matched to the applications and then accepted/denied.
As members of Ivy League, alts in that corporation will not be given any roles or titles (at least initially), and therefore will have no corp hangar access or similar, but will still be able to fly in E-UNI fleets.
If you have an alt which wishes to join, then please have them apply now and I will post more details later with the full recruitment process when its been completed.
Thanks,

This doesn't even look like it would be difficult to fix. CCP presumably implemented a lot of activity analysis code for anti-botting activities, so why can't similar analysis be applied to player activity to calculate wardec costs?
ReplyDeleteDo you think Greyscale will fix it? I doubt he will. Unless the CSM argues for the changes. Greyscales entire reason for the cost structure is that you are paying for targets. Alts, of course, are not targets (for the majority of players, if the main is logged, the alt is not, if the alt is logged, the main is not.)
DeletePerhaps he can be reasoned with.
Read the Eve Online Forum thread about the wardec changes.
DeleteCCP SoniClover has already been made aware that there are major problems with the proposed wardec system, incl. the cost structure, and admits that it still needs work before they release it. Apparently, nothing is set in stone, yet.
Here's a quote from his post yesterday (25 Apr):
"What we presented at Fanfest had more to do with the direction we were thinking of going in, it was never presented as a final solution. So we definitely are not going to go for exactly what we mentioned there."
You complaining about eve-uni cause of having 2k members? Yeah well it will be expensive to declare war to them but that's nothing to compare with a large alliance like lets say GOONS!
ReplyDelete8k members? THAT'S a WarDec Shield and it is obviously an entity that doesn't need that kind of comfort. I don't care about some uni students are hard to wardec, they are easy prey and most times unexperienced but that does not count for those block alliances.
I'm not a fan of keld but he is not that bad in this part neither is he the one profiting the most from it. This smells more like "we are big an powerful and don't want this damn highsec war decs anymore". Interfering with high sec logistic of the big alliances will come close to impossible if this doesn't change to something caped.
If you are realy worried about this mechanic, look to those who already have the large numbers and WERE on councile when it was planed.
Goons live mostly in 0.0. You can attack them anytime you want without a wardec. As for hauling and transport, the cargos that matter, they use out of alliance alts anyhow.
DeleteCSM6 was not consulted on the wardec proposal.
This is moronic, Greyscale has the whole thing upside down, it should be cheaper for small organisations to wardec large ones, not the other way around! This would actually help erode the bloc/blob issue rather reinforce it, it would also be a more accurate reflection of reality. Let's get back to the dangerous edgy conflict strewn frontier that eve is meant to be rather than being subsumed into the 'borg collective'.
ReplyDeleteHere, here..... well said young scamp.
Delete/me raises a glass to this fine gent then takes his seat once again.
MB.
There are roughly a dozen "Game Designers" working at CCP. Greyscale is not the designer on that feature. He's nowhere near it.
ReplyDeleteYour lips to Unifex's ears, Seleene. Somehow, that guy seems to find his way into too many things that one would not think him connected to - with the fairly predictable result of controversy.
DeleteNow, can we get him the hell away from Crimewatch?
Well, at least Keld's being honest about it, finally.
ReplyDeleteThat is worth a certain grudging respect from me, as I admire honesty.
Greyscale's and/or whomever else's that is working on this utter cluelessness just beggars belief, really.
Does he/do they even play EVE? At all?
