Quite simply put, it was an overwhelming victory. Through the entire weekend, until the destruction of the iHub, the Minmatar could not field nearly the numbers that the Amarr were. They were impressive in their organization.
There is no trash talk that the Minmatar can fall back on. There's no undermining the Amarrian victory due to Nulli Secunda, because Nulli Secunda were not in evidence on this eastern field of battle. This was, simply put, a stunning victory by the Amarrian old guard (Fweddit included.)
The Amarr gave lie to what the Minmatar always assumed was their strength -- organization. The Amarr simply out organized the Minmatar. They rallied the most troops, and kept up with the pressure on Kourmonen for four days, through every timezone. The Minmatar? If they ever had as many people online as the Amarr, only a half to a third of them were ever in the vicinity of Kourmonen. The defense of Kourmonen never generated the urgency among the troops that many of the Minmatar leaders tried to inspire in corporation and alliance evemails. It is easy enough to organize PvE pushes to T5 warzone control, much harder to organize a military defense; this is the lesson of Kourmonen.
So now the Minmatar fall back to Huola. Optimism is high, that we can hold the system. I am skeptical. It's not like the Minnie were seriously splitting their defense between Huola and Kourmonen. If the Amarr continue to throw up the same offensive, while the Minmatar continue to throw up the same meager defense, I suspect the same outcome as Kourm. I'll still be there to defend, of course, but it strikes me as an uphill battle at best.
I wanted to get that out of the way immediately. So that there is no question that I fully congratulate the Amarr on their success and for a battle well fought. Nulli Secunda might have spurred them into action, but Nulli played no part in the Fall of Kourmonen. This success is entirely an Amarr success. All the ass-slapping happening right now within their ranks, completely deserved.
Now yesterday was not without its annoyances.
When the Amarr park thirty to forty people in Kourmonen the entire night, the aim of doing that is obvious. They want to reach their goal without much resistance. There's no arguing that as a strategy. Especially when they can see that Huola, a Minmatar staging system and right next door to Kourmonen, isn't fielding more than fifteen to twenty pilots the entire night. Amarr numbers were outstripping Minmatar numbers, there's going to be little in the way of resistance in the march to flipping Kourm. Few people are interested in engaging in battles they know they'll lose.
Sometimes I think the Amarr share a mass stupidity.
It wasn't annoying the numbers they were fielding. It wasn't annoying that I kept losing ships to large gate camps. I can deal with the ship losses. I lose a lot of ships. I am interminably bad at EVE. Three hundred million in ships and pods in a single evening is kind of a lot, but I can deal with it. It's only ISK.
What's irksome is that, while the Amarr field their three-to-one advantage over the Minmatar throughout the evening, they also complain that there is no resistance, when their strategy is obviously to limit resistance. I found DurrDurrDurr's private conversations, after a couple of my losses, especially exasperating:
DurrDurrDurr > Minmatar still won't fightI can only shake my head. (Anyone know what :smith: means?)
Poetic Stanziel > If you blob the gate into the system, why would they come? I think most are preparing for evac.
DurrDurrDurr > You guys just turned into cowards man :smith: you won't fight even fights
Poetic Stanziel > Take it up in local. I'm not their king.
DurrDurrDurr > They're cowards
DurrDurrDurr > Won't fight my 30 man gang with his 8 people
DurrDurrDurr > fuckin' cowards
Poetic Stanziel > If you're flying with 30 people, that might be your problem.
DurrDurrDurr > fuckin'
DurrDurrDurr > thrashers and shit
DurrDurrDurr > never had problems flying with 30 thrashers before
DurrDurrDurr > Did you dudes lose your balls somewhere?
DurrDurrDurr > In the last month?
DurrDurrDurr > Tell militia chat that they're a bunch of vaginas.
Poetic Stanziel > You should log your alt and do that yourself.
Sometime after losing my Ishkur, a few of us struck up this bit of local chatter:
Pinky Feldman > poe you have t2 frigate? Can someone look at my killmail, find all the missing Thrashers and Ruptures? I can't seem to find them. Maybe I have Helen Keller eyes.
Poetic Stanziel > You blowed it up earlier with your 40-man gate blob.
April Day > don't complain that we're blobbing
April Day > a blob is like 200 guys
Poetic Stanziel > DurrDurr was bitching to me earlier, why he couldn't get Minmatar to come out ... there were 10 in Huola, he had 40 on Gate in Kourm and the reason why no one coming to fight was escaping him.
April Day > and we didn't have 40
April Day > at most our fleet was 30
April Day > and we were in thrashers and ruptures
April Day > nothing big
If the Amarr wanted some fights, all they had to do was send ten or fifteen folks into Huola to start plexing. They would have got a response and a fight. But sitting in Kourmonen with thirty to forty ships, well, the ten to fifteen Minmatar in Huola weren't feeling especially motivated to jump into a slaughter.
Anyhow, good work on Kourmonen. It'll be ours again, someday soon. In the meanwhile, we have Huola to fight over. Hopefully we, Minmatar and Amarr, all get the fights we're looking for.
