Faction Warfare - Because Tinfoil Hattery Reigns Supreme

Shalee Lianne has an excellent blog post concerning the mistrust every faction has for each other.

The idea revolves around Hans Jagerblitzen, who happens to be the CSM representative for faction warfare. He also happens to be a member of the Minmatar faction.

Many people, especially within the Amarr faction, distrust him. Unreasonably, in my opinion, but once tinfoil hats are donned, they are nearly impossible to doff.

(Anybody, who has taken the time to talk with Hans will know him to be an exemplary representative for all of faction warfare. He does not play favourites. He does not shy away from any idea that benefits everybody, even if said idea might be detrimental to a current Minmatar position. For example, he has been a champion of LP reward changes, even though Minmatar have benefitted the most, of any faction, from the current state of LP reward mechanics.)

Shalee's suggestion is for faction warfare to set-up their own mini-CSM, one member per faction (except Minmatar, since Hans is Minmatar) who will discuss issues with Hans. Hans will bring these issues to CCP, as he has been doing and will continue to do. This should alleviate any issues of Minmatar favouritism that some people believe exist, due to Hans being Minmatar.

Each faction should nominate two to three candidates. Someone will run a poll, and people will vote on their candidate. (Everybody can vote anyone nominated. Policing who votes for who is impossible. So people will and can vote for candidates not in their faction.)

The last faction warfare roundtable on Ten Evening News should serve as a starting point for viable candidates:

Amarr: Pinky Feldman, Rina Kondur
Caldari: Super Chair
Gallente: X Gallentius, Julius Foederatus, Chatgris, MinutemanKirk

These people can then meet with Hans on some fixed schedule. A couple times per week, perhaps. I'm sure the Minmatar Faction TS could be used, a special and private FW-CSM channel set-up for this purpose. Or if something completely private is preferred, then Skype can be used.

Perhaps we can enlist Shalee to run the election, set up the polling software (or account). The candidates for election can be submitted to her. If this is something people want, we should aim to have the candidates confirmed by August 15th.

  1. Almity is listed on the roundtable link as being an Amarr/Caldari representative. Since only one Caldari rep was on the panel, I chose to list Almity as Caldari as well. According to Almity, he is Amarr through and through.

  2. So, that folks don't waste their time, if you want to discuss AccelerationGate in a comment, your comment will not be approved. On topic, or not at all.

  3. I had discussed a sort of similar idea with Pinky a couple weeks ago. There's certainly nothing wrong with it, but in everything, strong opinions prevail. What good would this idea be if the people elected to it can't separate their biases from good feedback?

I'm just worried that it'll come down to grandstanding, a sort of rallying point for ideas when this isn't where that's needed.

Why doesn't the current system count as good enough? Each of the people who would presumably be the point on meeting with Hans can already talk with him, the only change is formalized group settings vs. individual talks.

The more organized we can make our feedback, the better. That's for sure. I'm for any system that can bring us towards, not away from that goal. If we decide to go forth with this idea, I hope it works well. At the very least, it's an idea we can all get behind.

Because DurrDurrDurr's current agenda seems to be to de-legitimize Hans as our CSM representative. I'm not sure why he wants to do this, other than his own personal meta-game.

DDD has the weight of his many Fweddit sheep behind him. (Not saying all Fweddit are sheep, but in any large group, most of those people like to follow, because critical thinking is hard.)

    2. I think DDD's recent, um, tiff with Hans is ultimately nothing (don't fault me for trying to be diplomatic with the situation). Fweddit certainly does have a lot of sheep that get swung around like a bat at times, but most of these people simply don't know better and aren't above reason.

DDD, or anyone like him, could easily pull the same stunt against any community-organized body of feedback, too. If they wanted, they could wage a campaign aimed at anyone, even if it means throwing some of their own under a bus to achieve some goal.

Stupid people will continue being stupid and their impact can't be lessened until we learn to ignore them.

  4. Good stuff, if someone wants to throw this together, it would certainly be appreciated if you guys think it might help people get over whatever it is they need to get over with.

Let's be honest though - time is of the essence, and I value EVERYONE's opinions when it comes to FW stuff, so even if there was some "mini-council" individuals will always be free to contact me directly if they want to discuss anything all. Same with scheduled meetings, while they're great and all, there's nothing stopping anyone from contacting me any time of the day if they care enough to share their opinion. I hate to send the message that FW players need to elect yet another intermediary and than wait for a weekly meeting to have a voice - its just completely unnecessary.

There will also always be those that just can't get over the fact that I play for one particular faction, and who want to exploit that for drama and entertainment value. These aren't the type of player that will suddenly trust me just because a few hundred other players declared them a mini-rep.

The Amarrian players that HAVE had the maturity to just approach me directly with their issues understand that I'm not blowing anyone off or double-speaking to CCP. Their testimony to this effect to their peers will always help more than simply adding more bureacratic layers to this process, but I understand it takes guts to stand up to the mob mentality. I admire all of you that have had the courage to work with me, you're the ones that will end up making a difference this Winter.

  5. Hans is a frakkin BOSS and anyone that thinks he shows favorites is a drama queen.

  6. Tbqh even thought the accel gate thing is probably a bug instead of a feature, I like it. It allows the plex mechanics to work properly, you can't just sit a big gang on the plex and stop ships going in you have to fight them in similar hull sizes.

  7. DDD with his own personal meta-game? Like you with Kelduum? Come on, talk about tin foil....

    1. I think you confuse tinfoil hattery with metagaming in general.

If DDD has a grudge against Hans, so be it. If I have a grudge against Kelduum, so be it. But at least keep the yammering within the realm of believability. (For instance, Kelduum did no work on the CSM Minutes, so my calling him out on that is fact, not fiction.)

The tinfoil hattery in the title of this post refers to anyone who thinks Hans abuses his position on the CSM to help only Minmatar.
