It's a damned fine update. Lots of nifty UI goodies. Lots of ship rebalancing to play with. First things first though:
The user interface teams have been on a serious roll since Crucible. They keep making the game easier, prettier, more intuitive to use. Retribution 1.1 is chock full of their goodness, and this is simply a point release. Routes in space. The new info panels and their configurability. Drag-and-drop fleets.
I know there's more important stuff, mechanically, in each expansion/update: crimewatch, ship rebalancing, faction warfare improvements, new gate mechanics, that sort of thing. But every expansion, every point release, I look forward more to the new bits of magic the UI teams will release, than any of that more important stuff.
I like a game that makes it easier for me to interact with it. And that's what the user interface teams bring to the table. That's the sort of stuff that gets me excited about patch day.

Putting the Dueling auto-reject in the Audio & Chat tab is NOT a UI victory.
ReplyDeletePoint taken. LOL. It did take me a little while to find it. But without creating a new tab, a dueling request is sort of like a chat request. A chat with lasers and missiles and bullets.
DeleteCHOCK full, not chalk full. Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteghuq ewe :)
DeleteI like the UI improvement which turned off Tier 3 BCs on the overview, by default.
ReplyDeleteYeah, nice one, CCP.
Yes, that was totally helpful. The virtual screams of "WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T THE TALOS APPEAR IN MY OVERVIEW?!?!?" were painful to hear.
Delete...which is why I give mine a cursory glance with every patch.
UI improvements are nice "quality of life" enhancements to the game. I find they make the other features (new or old) more enjoyable :)
ReplyDeleteThe damage indicator animations look more fluid since the patch (Don't they? It's pretty subtle). I also noticed that the little system boxes in the route flicker when being unhidden. These are really small things but they show that CCP is still putting effort into the craft of building a game. My Drake tho... :(
ReplyDeleteDrag-and-drop fleet window is my favorite of this round of changes, followed by the info panels. :)
