I wrote earlier this month about Own3d TV going under, with the prizes for the New Eden Open Tournament left unpaid. A tournament that Own3d TV was sponsoring.
We all assumed CCP would make good on the prize shortfall. $10K prize money is not a lot, not when you consider CCP's cashflow. It would be an unforeseen expense for them, for sure, but I can't imagine one that they could not absorb painlessly.
I missed the announcement on the forums (I was expecting they'd do it more publicly, devblog style or something), but CCP is making good on what Own3d left on the table. Kudos to them for stepping up.
CCP Dolan (yes, he can read and write!) made the announcement a week ago. So, most of you probably already know this. For those that did not know, I figured it's good karma to update the news nonetheless. The winners, by now, have either received their emails from CCP or are about to very shortly.

Who actually won this tournament? I didn't actually see any of it.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember. Although I did watch the final day. The teams all had weird names, so it was hard to connect with them.
DeleteThe New Eden Open is no Alliance Tournament.
Asine Hitama's team. Gallente roleplayers in ratting ships <3
DeleteGood on CCP. I don't think they had any legal obligation to step up and I'm pleasantly surprised that they did.
ReplyDeleteThey are a class act.
